Worship And The Omnipotence Of God

All of God’s attributes are infinite.  The attribute of his power is infinite as well.  God is infinite, but man is finite.  Finite means that mankind is restricted, restrained by boundaries, subject to limitations.
What are some of those limitations?  ______________________________________________________________________________________

God is infinite – The attributes of God are without limit.  God transcends all limitations which time or space would impose upon him.  In every moral quality, HE is complete to infinity.  He alone is the first cause of causes.

Psalm 121:1-3 1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  2  My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.   3  He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

What characteristics  about God do we see in this text:

Why is the name LORD in all capital letters?

In Exodus Moses asked the LORD to show him HIS glory.   God’s glory is his manifest presence.  His glory is HIS essential makeup.  The glory of God is the manifestation of HIS righteous character.   In Exodus 34, The LORD defines that character.

Exodus 34:5-8  5 And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.  6 And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,  7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. 8 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.

We are either a recipient of HIS infinite mercy, grace, longsuffering and abundant goodness and truth forgiving our sin or we are lost without hope.  What do you know of God’s omnipotence?

Psalm 33:8  Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

Psalm 145:3  Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

Psalm 147:5  Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

What characteristics of God are found in the previous three scriptures?

Omnipotence is ALL POWER.  It is a term applied  only to God’s power. “God’s power is like himself:   infinite, eternal, incomprehensible; it can neither be checked,  restrained, nor frustrated by the  creature.” (Stephen Charnock)

We cannot stop God, but God in HIS infinite wisdom chose to give HIS creation a free will to choose.  There was a moment in eternity past when there was only one will expressed.  But then Lucifer changed all of that when He said in Isaiah 14 that he would be like the Most High God.

Isaiah 14:12-15   12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!  13  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:  14  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.  15  Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Once time is finished and God has Redeemed to HIM the saints of God for all eternity. Once again there will only be one will expressed throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity. This will is the infinitely wise and faithful Will Of God.

The Omnipotence of God is that ability and strength whereby HE can bring to pass whatever HE pleases to do.   The Omnipotence of God enables HIS infinite wisdom to direct whatever HIS will may decide to do.

So if God, which is the Hebrew plural noun Elohim identified as the Creator in Genesis 1:1, decided to create a universe so expansive that scientists can only speculate as to its size. And if God, Elohim, decided to fill this universe with hundreds of billions of galaxies with each galaxy containing from 200-400 billion stars.  He simply had to speak and it was done.

For God’s power is infinite, eternal, incomprehensible, it can neither be checked, restrained, nor frustrated by the creature. (Stephen Charnock)

If a believer is to worship God, he must have a proper view of who God is.  If God is exalted in the heart of the believer, the believer will worship the infinitely, al-powerful, characteristics of a Faithful God.

God is Love and he demonstrated that love for me at Calvary’s tree.  How did this demonstration of love change my life?

God is Faithful and he continues to demonstrate that faithfulness in the way that he forgives me.  How does the faithfulness of God’s forgiveness affect my personal worship of HIM.

If God is a God of grace, then how does grace affect my worship of HIM?

God is Omnipotent and raised the Lord Jesus Christ from the dead.  How does that Omnipotence stimulate personal worship in my soul?

If God is all-powerful and HE is, then it makes no sense to fight against HIM.  Jonah tried and he ended up on a dark journey of three days filled with affliction.  Saul of Tarsus persecuted the Church until God smote him with blindness and brought him to a household of believers who ministered to him and he became the greatest of the apostles.

The Spirit of God reveals to us our sin.  At that moment, we cry out to God for mercy.  His mercy is extended.  We cry out for grace to walk in victory and grace is applied.  The  heart of gratefulness soars to the throne of God in worship as the soul of man worships in spirit and in truth.
